SLOVENIAN CULINARY HERITAGE PRESENTED BY "THE COOKING KIDS"
Elementary School children from Savinjska dolina in Slovenia will present traditional dishes from their region. The children won the “Cooking Kids” competition, organized by project leader Ms. Anka Peljhan, in the elementary schools throughout Slovenia. This culinary research project has involved more than 2,000 Slovenian children every year. Its objective is to introduce them to the world of gastronomy, history and related local customs, while providing them with healthy food options. Local farmers and Slovenian food producers provide the ingredients while teachers, chefs, and restaurant owners provide mentorship and contribute to their culinary education. Through the competition, about 200 recipes of traditional Slovenian dishes are rediscovered every year. Now in the 5th year, the Cooking Kids has revived more than 900 almost forgotten recipes and many interesting stories behind them.
